New Free Public Health Overdose Prevention Box at Reedsburg Public Library

Sauk County, Wis. — Public Health Sauk County and the Reedsburg Public Library are excited to announce a life-saving tool in the Reedsburg community: a free overdose prevention box inside the Reedsburg Public Library. This box is available during the library’s business hours and has free tools that can help prevent drug overdoses and keep our community healthier.

The overdose prevention box includes:
Narcan® Nasal Spray – an over-the-counter medication that can reverse an opioid overdose and save a life.
• Deterra® Medication Disposal Kits – bags that safely destroy old or unused over the counter and prescription medications.
• Fentanyl Test Strips – strips that can show if an illicit drug—such as a pill purchased on the street-- has fentanyl in it.
• Xylazine Test Strips – strips that can show if an illicit drug, like fentanyl, has the animal tranquilizer xylazine in it.
• We Heart You Community Resource Kits –local mental health and substance use support resources.

“These items are free for everyone,” says Hannah Erdman, a Health Educator at Public Health Sauk County. “We want people to have easy access to life-saving supplies and resources.”

The Reedsburg Public Library is a trusted and welcoming community space that many people visit, which makes it a great spot for the overdose prevention box. "We are so pleased to partner with Public Health Sauk County in filling our community's need. In the short time since installation, the supplies in the box have already been well utilized,” states Anne Howe, Assistant Director at Reedsburg Public Library.

This project is part of a larger effort to prevent overdoses, share mental health and substance use resources, and support the health of Sauk County residents.
