Measles is a highly contagious respiratory disease.

Measles SPREADS through the air on droplets, like coughing and sneezing. This virus can stay in the air for up to 2 HOURS after a person leaves the room!

Signs & Symptoms:

  • Runny nose 
  • cough
  • high fever
  • red swollen eyes
  • A red rash with raised bumps

Measles can be very serious. About 1 in 4 unvaccinated people in the U.S. who get measles will be hospitalized. 1 out of every 1,000 people with Measles will develop brain swelling. 1 or 2 out of 1,000 people with Measles will die, even with the best medical care. 

PREVENTION:

  • The MMR Vaccine protects against Measles, Mumps, & Rubella
  • Children should receive their first dose of the vaccine between 12 and 15 months of age, and
  • The second dose at 4-6 years of age
