Air Quality Advisory

Last Updated June 29, 2023

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has extended the Air Quality Advisory until Friday, June 30th at noon.

Due to the continued presence of smoke originating from Canadian wildfires, the air quality index is expected to reach the UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS (Orange) to UNHEALTHY (Red) level for both Ozone and PM2.5. The best chance to reach the UNHEALTHY (Red)  air quality index will occur across south-central and southeast Wisconsin. In these areas, people with lung disease (such as asthma), children, older adults, and people who are active outdoors (including outdoor workers) should avoid prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion, while everyone should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion.

How to Protect Yourself From Wildfire Smoke:

The best way to avoid wildfire smoke is to stay indoors. Be sure to:

  • Close windows and doors.
  • Run A/C on recirculate.
  • Use an indoor air purifier.

If you must spend time outside during wildfire smoke events:

  • Check air quality conditions before leaving the house and throughout the day.
  • Avoid or limit exercising outdoors.
  • Consider wearing an N-95 mask, especially if outdoors for an extended period.
