Witwen Tabernacle Church Campground

Evangelistic camp meetings have been held in the area since 1853; 90 of the last 156 years from the Witwen Tabernacle. Early gatherings were hosted by the Evangelical Association Church until a merger in 1946 with the United Brethren Church resulted in a new organization, the Evangelical United Brethren. In 1968 the merger with the Methodists resulted in the present United Methodist Church .

Camp meetings continue to the present with members of Concordia, Denzer/North Freedom, and Black Hawk-Bethlehem United Methodist Churches comprising the leadership of the Camp Witwen Association.

The campground is also the site for the annual Chicken Barbeque that is held in conjunction with the Witwen Fourth of July parade. This parade was featured by CBS Television in "On the Road with Charles Kuralt."
