Arthur Cheek House

This house was designed by Walter J. Keith and was chosen the “House Design of the Year” in 1897 by the Ladies Home Journal. Arthur P. Cheek, Baraboo's Postmaster, built this home in 1900 from Mr. Keith's plans.

This house is important because of the contributions to the early 1900's progressive movement in American society and the building of moderate homes as a result of efforts of architects like Walter Keith.

Modest modifications have been made to the house, but the present owner, Joan McArthur, has worked hard to preserve the original integrity of the house, including the speaking tube system.
