Tripp Memorial Library & Hall

The J.S. Tripp Memorial Library and Hall was built in Prairie du Sac in 1912 using village funds for the removal of the Baxter House and construction of the foundation and using funds provided by the Honorable Jedidiah Stevens Tripp for the building itself. It replaced the library, jail and village hall that had been housed in the Baxter house since 1900.

The architect was Joseph Dresen of Prairie du Sac with Alfred Clas, of the Milwaukee firm of Ferry and Clas, as the consulting architect. Clas was a Sauk City native and retained a lifelong interest in the growth of his hometown.

The building design is neo-classical brick exterior with a slate roof and sandstone sills. Inside the woodwork is red oak and the floors are white maple.

The village hall moved out of the building in 1964. The Sauk Prairie Area Historical Society moved into the second floor in the early 1970's and bought the building from the village in 1997 when the library moved out into a new building.
