Sauk County has moved up to the High COVID-19 Community Level; Masking in Public Settings Recommended

Due to high numbers of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, Sauk County is now in the High COVID-19 Community Level. Under current CDC guidance, universal masking in public settings is recommended.

The CDC recommends the use of the COVID-19 Community levels to guide what prevention steps to take to protect yourself and others from COVID-19. Levels can be low, medium, or high, and are determined by looking at the number of new COVID-19 cases in an area, hospital beds being used, and new hospital admissions in the past 7 days.

With this shift to the High Level, people in Sauk County are recommended to take the following prevention steps:

  • Wear a mask indoors in public
  • Stay up to date with COVID-19 vaccines
  • Get tested if you have symptoms
  • Stay home if you are sick or are recommended to isolate or quarantine
  • If you are at high risk for severe illness:
    • talk to your healthcare provider about taking other precautions
    • ask your healthcare provider about whether you are a candidate for COVID-19 treatments or preventive therapeutics

Under the current CDC guidance, masking is recommended for people who have symptoms, a positive test, or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19.  Universal masking in public settings is recommended only when a community is experiencing High COVID-19 Community Levels.

“More tools than ever before are available to reduce the risk of severe illness from COVID-19,” informs Treemanisha Stewart, Health Officer/Director of Public Health Sauk County. “Getting vaccinated and staying up to date remains the best way to protect yourself and your family.”
