Rustic Camping

Rustic Camping

Rustic camping now available at White Mound County Park! Defined as hike-in, hike-out camping without water, electric or bathrooms, rustic camping is available in 3 different locations throughout White Mound County Park:

  • Rustic Campsite #1 is southwest of the Parks maintenance building, approximately 0.6 miles from nearest parking lot
  • Rustic Campsite #2 is north of the horse campground, approximately 0.7 miles from the horse campground parking lot
  • Rustic Campsite #3 is southeast of the boat landing, approximately 0.3 miles from the boat landing parking lot

Each campsite can accommodate tents and has a picnic table, fire ring, utility post (for hanging lanterns, garbage bags, backpacks, etc.) and boulder seating. Up to 8 adults, 6 children and 3 pets may occupy a rustic campsite.

These campsites will typically be open Memorial Day through Labor Day and cost $20 per night.

Information, Policies & Rules

Camping is only allowed in designated mowed areas at each campsite. Shelters or dwellings cannot be constructed out of tree, plant or earthen material. No motorized vehicles are allowed at any of the campsites. Use of non-motorized carts is allowed. Parking is available in the nearest available parking lot to each campsite - contact Park staff or view our White Mound County Park brochure for clarification.

Fire rings cannot be moved and fires are only allowed in the fire ring provided. Fires must be put out upon departure of the campsite. Sauk County may determine that no fires are allowed in the rustic campsites due to weather conditions, not even for cooking or warming purposes. In the event of this, if campsites are available, you may switch to a campsite in the campground at no additional cost.

To properly dispose of human waste, campers must dig a hole 6 inches deep and bury any human waste and/or biodegradable material, with nothing left exposed. Bathrooms are available throughout White Mound County Park, including near the office, in the campground and horse campground, and at the boat landing.

Trash must be deposited in the dumpers located across the road from the campground entrance. All trash including cigarette butts must be cleaned up.

Reservations for phone bookings and online bookings will open on the first business day of the year. However, early reservation requests may be sent to Sauk County Parks and Recreation between December 1 and December 15. Please check out our full reservation policy for more details.
