REMINDER!! Sauk's 90-day appeal period for FEMA DFIRMs ends 3/15/12

Sauk County Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRMs), Flood Insurance Study (FIS) and corresponding data are currently in a 90-day public review process. Appeals and/or comments should be compiled and verified by each community and then may be submitted by March 15, 2012 to Christopher Olds via email or mail:

After the public open house held in Baraboo on November 8th, a 101-155 letter from FEMA via certified mail was sent out on December 9th to all community CEOs (please refer to this letter and its enclosures for further information). It explained that the base flood elevation (BFE) changes had been published in the Federal Register on November 14th, and that a BFE notice would be published in the Baraboo News Republic on December 9th and 16th. This second newspaper notice date kicked off the 90-day appeal and comment period for Sauk County.

After the appeal and comment period has ended and FEMA has addressed all comments and appeals received on the preliminary FIS report and DFIRM, the Letter of Final Determination (LFD) will be mailed to your community along with the final Summary of Map Actions (SOMA). The LFD will set the date when the FIS report and DFIRM become effective six months from the letter’s post date. During these six months the community must update or adopt new floodplain ordinances that meet the requirements in the U.S. Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 60.3. FEMA will send you printed copies of the finalized FIS report and DFIRM at least two months prior to the effective date of the maps.

Your community’s appeals and comments on the preliminary DFIRM panels and FIS report are an important part of the review process and will be considered carefully before the DFIRM and FIS report are published in their final form.
