Technical and financial assistance is available to landowners to install conservation practices to reduce soil erosion, protect water quality, and conserve the natural resources of Sauk County. Goals to address natural resource concerns and an implementation strategy to achieve those goals are established in the 2018 Land and Water Resource Management (LWRM) Plan that is updated every ten years.

Landowners who are interested in obtaining cost-sharing to install a conservation practice on their land should submit an application to the LRE office. Applications are ranked according to practice cost, priority areas, and environmental benefit.  If approved, landowners can receive up to 70% cost-sharing to install conservation practices.
