Rotational Grazing

Grazing Cattle

Managed rotational grazing is the practice of rotating livestock to new pastures at regular intervals. This creates high stocking rates for very short periods of time. Pastures are allowed to rest and regrow. This promotes a dense sod, prevents overgrazing and erosion, and suppresses the growth of undesirable woody vegetation. The resulting forage is of high quality and produces significantly more than traditional continuously grazed pastures. Livestock will only graze each paddock (small sections of pasture) no more than 5 to 7 times a year, and then for 12-72 hours.
