Licensing

QWill I pay a pre-inspection fee each year?

A:  No. As long as a new license is not required, you will only be charged an annual license fee each year.

QWhen can I start operating my business?

A:  You may not operate your business until the license is released by the inspector. If the inspector determines you are ready to operate during your pre-inspection, your license will be released and you will be free to operate. Your paper copy of the license will arrive within the next couple of weeks.

QHow long is my license good for?

A:  The licensing year runs from July 1 - June 30.  License renewals are sent out in April and must be renewed no later than June 30 to avoid late fees or revocation of the license.

Q:  If I obtain a new license in April, do I have to renew again in June?

A:  Any new license issued after April 1 will be good through June 30 the following year (15 month license).

Q:  If I am a church, how many meals can I serve in a year without a license?

A:  Churches and other religious organizations can sell/serve up to 3 meals in a 12 month period without a license.

Q:  Can I give food away without a license?

A:  Non-meal items, such as baked goods and packaged items, can be given away an unlimited amount without a license.  Once a sale occurs, a license may be needed.
