Foodborne illness (often referred to as "food poisoning"), is a common, costly, and preventable public health problem.  Each year, 1 in 6 Americans get sick by consuming contaminated foods or beverages. Many different  pathogens can contaminate foods, so there are many different types of foodborne illnesses.  In addition, poisonous chemicals or other harmful substances can cause foodborne diseases if they are present in food.  Public Health Sauk County has a number of programs that serve to prevent and investigate foodborne illness.  More information can be found in the links below.
