Livability Project for Sauk County

ADRC Has Begun A New Project
We need your help to make Sauk County a stronger community!!!

Across the United States, communities are recognizing the challenges that they face in the 21st century.  Creative local leaders are using a powerful new tool to manage these challenges.  They are turning to their neighbors and to the local citizens associations and institutions that lie at the heart of their community.  This is called Asset-Based Community Development.

Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) is a tool at the center of a large and growing movement which considers local assets as the primary building blocks of sustainable community development.  Building on the skills of local residents, the power of local associations, and the supportive functions of local institutions, Asset-Based Community Development draws upon existing community strengths to build stronger, more sustainable communities for the future.

The Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) has become part of this movement and is asking for your help in improving the quality of life and what is sometimes called 'Livability' here in Sauk County.  This effort is based upon a number of assumptions:

  •      Every person has interests;
  •      Every person has experiences, talents, and gifts to share with the community;
  •      These interests are what drive our passions;
  •      These passions are what motivate us to act.

The United States faces an interesting challenge.  One of the singular agents of change is the increasing longevity of its population.  There will be more and more people who reach the 60+ milestone in the years ahead.  How do we plan for these changes and how can we use these trends in our favor to improve the life of the community?

The ADRC wants to know what residents think about the issues of livability including housing, nutrition, access, etc.  We are specifically interested in the changing world of those who have achieved 60 years of age.

If you have talents, interests, passions and are motivated to act, we ask that you contact the ADRC and ask for Linda Champagne to work with this project as much or as little as you would like.  Please call 608.355.3289 for more information.
