Sauk County Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (CORP)

Scorp

Sauk County is currently in the planning process to update the Sauk County Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (CORP). The Plan identifies needs for future recreational opportunities and lands to serve both residents and visitors to Sauk County.  The Plan also makes Sauk County eligible for cost sharing aid and grant funding for recreational development projects.  Overall, the primary goal of the planning process is to advance and expand the Sauk County Parks and Recreation System and to utilize the CORP as guiding policy implementation document. The priority areas and objectives will provide guidance to the LRE Department for planning and policy decisions over the next five years. (2025-2029).

The Department will be hosting an Open House on May 30th from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at White Mound County Park in the Prairie Smoke Terrace. Please join us to discuss the future of Sauk County Parks and Recreation. There will be  a short presentation at 5:00 pm and again at 6:00 pm followed by open discussions on all active recreational projects.

The current CORP (2020-2024) was drafted from April-September 2019 by a core team from the Sauk County Land Resources and Environment Department. Public engagement was a vital component of the creation of the plan’s objectives and goals through surveys, stakeholder interviews, and a public open house.  There are four goals, or priorities areas that have been identified: 1) Further development of the County park system; 2) Resource management and stewardship; 3) Partnerships, and; 4) Economic development and tourism. Each of the four areas have objectives, which are clearly defined action steps that will enable the Land Resources and Environment Department to measure progress during implementation. The Plan was adopted by the Sauk County Board of Supervisors on January 21, 2020. Please see the links below for the full plan and associated individual property master plans as an appendix to the Sauk County CORP.
