The Aging and Disability Resource Center offers housing guides to connect customers to both independent living and alternative/supported housing options for older adults and/or people with disabilities. These guides are designed to provide a list of housing options. These guides do not reflect current availability - the consumer is responsible for contacting the potential housing option for information and/or availability.

"ADRC Housing Connections"

This guide contains information about housing designed specifically for seniors and those with disabilities. This can include apartments  or retirement communities.  

"Sauk County Alternative Housing Options"

This guide connects customers to supported housing options for those who need a little extra support or completely supported living arrangements.

Alternative Housing Options: Know the Difference

Adult Family Homes are homes in the community in which individuals, 18 years or older can chose to live who are not able to live independently because of age-related, physical, developmental, or mental health disabilities. Adult Family Homes provide a safe environment and serve as an alternative to nursing homes or institutional care.  Adult Family Homes with more than 2 beds are licensed by the state but there are some that are 1-2 bed homes.

Residential Care Apartment Complex (RCAC), formerly known as "assisted living," provide residents with their own apartment and services or care provided are based on individual needs.  

Community Based Residential Facilities (CBRF) are state licensed supportive living facilities where five or more unrelated adults reside. This housing options provides services that go above and beyond typical "room and board" services; often, they are thought of as "assisted living facilities." 

Nursing homes are also available throughout Sauk County.  Most skilled nursing homes offer long term care for residents who require daily assistance on a long term basis.
