Employment and Training for Older Adults and People with Disabilities

There are many different agencies available to individuals looking for employment with disabilities. Please feel free to call and discuss some of the different options for services with the Aging and Disability Specialist or contact the agency directly.

Division of Vocational Rehabilitation

DVR serves individuals with disabilities who face a substantial barrier to employment. They also work with employers to assist the relationship between the worker and employer. They provide employment services and counseling to people with disabilities and provide or arrange for services to enable an individual to go to work. The DVR also provides training and technical assistance to employers regarding disability employment issues.

Vocational Area Rehabilitation Center

VARC has services that include evaluation, work adjustment training, supported employment, school-to-work transition, and job placement. Referrals are accepted from schools, families, county agencies, and DVR. These services can be purchased privately or paid for through publicly funded programs.  Eligibility criteria apply.

Community Supported Employment helps individuals to obtain jobs and provide ongoing training and support necessary to maintain employment. Community production services provide the opportunity to gain employment skills while earning wages in a manufacturing environment.

VARC will accept referrals of individuals who are developmentally disabled, persons with mental or emotional health challenges, elderly, brain injured, in jail with Huber Law work release privileges, and veterans. They offer integrated employment between employees with disabilities working alongside average employees.  Employees without disabilities are hired as LTE (limited term employees).

Wisconsin Works (W-2)

The Wisconsin Works (W-2) program is available to parents of minor children whose family income is below 115% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL).  Each W-2 eligible participant meets with a Financial and Employment Planner (FEP), who helps the individual develop an employment ability plan.  You can apply Forward Service Corporation at 608-356-2034.
