Barred Owl Release at Hemlock Park

In February, a barred owl was released at Hemlock County Park. The barred owl was hit by a car not far from Hemlock Park. It was rehabilitated by the Dane County Humane Society and released near its home range at the park.

Barred owls have a hoot that is very easy to distinguish. It sounds like someone saying, “Who cooks for you, who cooks for you all.” In February and March, these owls are courting and going wild, making their call especially heard to impress a possible mate.
