Stream Corridor Easement Program

Do  you own property along a river or stream in Sauk County?

Sauk County has been working with property owners as part of a stream corridor easement project that was established back in 1999, in conjunction with the US Highway 12 Bypass construction project.   The program seeks to protect and enhance environmentally sensitive areas along our streams and rivers while providing habitat for fish and wildlife.   It allows for stream restoration work on eroding streambanks and within the stream.

To accomplish this, the program involves the purchase of conservation easements along our streams and rivers within certain areas of Sauk County.  Property owners could receive an average of $2000-$4000 per acre for  a stream corridor easement.

Eligible stream corridors include land within the following townships:  Prairie du Sac, Sumpter, Baraboo, Delton, Fairfield, Greenfield, Merrimac, Troy, Honey Creek, Freedom, Excelsior and Dellona.
