REASON FOR MEETING:  CONSERVATION FIELD VISITS
SUBJECTS FOR DISCUSSION:
 

1.         Call to order and certify compliance with open meetings law – Sauk County Farm

2.         Adopt agenda.

3.         Presentation of rainfall simulator & observe crop cover

4.         Travel to Terry Wright’s Farm (Leaving County Farm approximately 9:30 a.m.)

            a.  Terry Wright Rotational Grazing Operation (E509 Penshorn Rd, Wonewoc, arrival approximately 10 a.m.[GT1] )

5.         Travel to Alvin Helmuth’s Farm (Leaving Terry Wright’s farm approximately 10:30 a.m.)

            a.  Alvin Helmuth Streambank project (S2170 Henderson Rd, Wonewoc, arriving approximately 10:45 a.m.)

6.         Travel back to the County Farm (Leaving Alvin Helmuth’s Farm approximately 11:15 a.m.)

7.         Next meeting dates - Tuesday, September 26th  and Thursday October 12th 2017.

8.         Adjournment.

Conservation, Planning, and Zoning (CPZ) Committee members present:  D. Polivka, E. Peterson, J. Dietz, C. Spencer and S. Laubscher.

 

Absent:  M. Flint, J. Ashford, C. Pettersen

 

Others present:   L. Wilson, M. Keenan, B. Bergstrom, S. Koenig, B. Sadler, G. Johnson

 

At 8:57 a.m. Polivka called the Conservation, Planning, and Zoning Committee meeting to order and staff certified to be in compliance with the Open Meetings Law. 

 

Adopt agenda:  Motion by J. Dietz/S. Laubscher to adopt the agenda as presented. Motion carried, all in favor.

 

Presentation of rainfall simulator & observe crop cover  Sadler presented the rainfall simulator.  Koenig/Keenan provided information on the cover crops.  Discussed the County Farm as an important outdoor classroom to showcase conservation efforts and practices. (Left at 9:30 for Terry Wright’)

Travel to Terry Wright’s Farm
a.  Terry Wright Rotational Grazing Operation (E509 Penshorn Rd, Wonewoc).   Arrived Wright’s at 10:29.  Bergstrom introduced the stream project.  Koenig provided information on the stream monitoring being completed in the stream.  Terry Wright provided information regarding the rotational grazing project.  (Left at 10:55 for Helmuth’s)

Travel to Alvin Helmuth’s Farm
a.  Alvin Helmuth Streambank project (S2170 Henderson Rd, Wonewoc)   Arrived at Helmuth’s at 11:08.  Bergstrom provided background on the stream project; and noted future phases that are planned along the corridor.  (Left at 11:36 for County Farm)

Next meetings of the Conservation, Planning, and Zoning Committee will be held on Tuesday, September 26th at 2:00 p.m. and Thursday, October 12th at 9:00 a.m.   Motion by D. Polivka/E. Peterson to adjourn at 12:16 p.m.  Motion carried, all in favor.
