The meeting was called to order and certification of Open Meeting compliance was given at 3:00 p.m. Motion by Ruth Browning, second by Dan Brattset, to adopt agenda. Motion carried.

Motion by Ruth Browning, second by Mike Albrecht, to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. Motion carried.

Public Comment:  None

Communications:

District Court Administrator, Ron Ledford informs us that TAD grant is available for juveniles as well, expects increase in funding for TAD grants, urges us to consider. 

Teen Court Professional Development Opportunity was 2/24.  No one from group attended.  As those opportunities arise, should take advantage of them.

Juvenile Drug Court Grant Opportunity, due May 2017.  Previous CJCC worked on grant applications, not sure of current capacity to pursue such. Will discuss later.  Discussion on how notice of these opportunities may be provided to members.

Review Data:  Browning: Survey data provided in handout.  Browning believes there was good response to survey, 93 returned.  Mattson can obtain more demographics from SCDHS.  Evidence-based tool will be used next year which will allow for increased data collection.

Discuss Truancy Interventions/Alternatives possibilities for the future.   Truancy referrals and citations are tracking to have substantial increases for 2017. Discussed policies and procedures for truancy referrals.  Possible truancy diversion court.  Rolf suggested everyone research the evidence-based truancy diversion information on the internet, a lot available.  Consensus to have someone speak to group on diversion.  Judge Klicko in contact with Outagamie Judge who runs truancy court to possibly speak.

Discuss Teen Court possibilities for the future.   Requires right fit of person running it to be successful. 

Discuss Juvenile Drug Court possibility for the future.  Per Ron Ledford, there is money for this.  We may not have volume for this, however, if consider from perspective of families who are drug-endangered, may have enough.  Need research into what this is and if we have a need.

Discuss the addition of a Public Defenders Office representative to the committee.  Attorney Rolf was introduced at beginning of meeting as Representative from Public Defenders Office or it may be David Susens occasionally. 

Discuss secure/shelter placement options. Information from Ramnarace; shelter is beneficial at getting juveniles placed to school.  Placing kids in other locations can be negative.  May be worthwhile to have a representative from the Sheriff’s Department or Jail on the committee.
