Board members present: Judy Ashford, Sue Meise, Terrance Slack, Pat Andreessen, David Wernecke, Barbara Morford, and Peggy Heidenreich
Librarians present: Pat Thompson, Haley Weisert, Sue Kucher, Kris Houtler, Raina Roloff, Cathy Borck, Kathleen Kosiec, Emily Judd, and Martha Van Pelt, SCLS Director
- Call to order: Judy Ashford called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. and verified compliance with the open meeting law.
- Introduction of new Library Board Members: Pat Andreessen, Dave Wernecke and Terry Slack. All board members and librarians present introduced themselves. Martha Van Pelt, from the South Central Library System explained the system’s role in county library service.
- Adoption of Agenda: Meise made a motion and Morford seconded to adopt the agenda. Passed unanimously.
- Approval of minutes: Meise made a motion and Heidenreich seconded to approve the minutes of the last meeting. Passed unanimously.
- Election of officers: Heidenreich made a motion and Morford seconded to elect Judy Ashford as chair. Meise made a motion and Morford seconded to close nominations. Both motions passed unanimously.
Ashford made a motion and Morford seconded to elect Sue Meise as vice-chair. Wernecke made a motion and Morford seconded to close nominations. Both motions passed unanimously.
Ashford made a motion and Morford seconded to elect Peggy Heidenreich as secretary. Ashford made a motion and Meise seconded to close nominations. Both motions passed unanimously.
- Review annual calendar of tasks: Board members and librarians reviewed revised calendar. Accepted as printed.
- Review of County Library Board Bylaws: Ashford explained that according to Wisconsin state statutes, 43.57 (4c), board membership includes one school district superintendent or their appointed designee. Morford moved and Andreessen seconded to add the necessary legal phrase to the bylaws. Motion passed unanimously.
- SCLS report – Marty Van Pelt, SCLS Director, presented the SCLS report. On January 1, 2016, Randolph library became a member of SCLS. The Rome library in Adams County has joined the Linkcat computer system. E-rate funding will be available to some libraries necessitating changes in the calculations for Linkcat funding. Judd will serve as the Sauk County representative on this committee.
- Librarians’ reports – Sauk City: Emily Judd reported on recent programs including Santa Storytime, Countdown to Noon, upcoming family fort building, a Sweetheart Dance, coloring for adults, and their first monthly book discussion. SCLS has provided staff training and consulted on floor plan redesign. LaValle: Pam Thompson reported on programs including a Santa visit, cookie decorating, and their collaboration with Rock Springs for new programs. Area donors provided materials and labor for a new stack for the children’s area. Rock Springs: Haley Weisert reported on programs including Hearts and Minds together, movies, kitchen classes with gluten free, coffee, and preserving food experts. Additionally, they are offering art creation classes including drawing and recycled art projects. Rock Springs is participating in Sauk County’s Earth Day celebration, starting a cake pan collection, and planning their community garden. Weisert will be attending a U-W class on collection development. Reedsburg: Sue Kucher and Kris Houtler reported on activities including the purchase of 2 Ipads for staff usage, Osmo kits for Ipads, and sewing machines. Kucher and Houtler reported on the addition of a new youth services librarian, the Friends booksale, crafter and coloring programs, the WI writer’s quilt on display, their upcoming writer’s series, John Muir exhibit, fly tying program, and the Working Warriors exhibit. North Freedom: Raina Roloff reported on their anonymous donor who has provided gifts the past few years through Amazon’s wish list totaling $78,000. Roloff shared information on upcoming programs, including game night, MaKey MaKey, Pie day, and Osmo for use on the library Ipads. Wisconsin Dells: Cathy Borck reported on the displays for their January 23 open house, including Quilts of Valor. Upcoming programs and activities include crafts, new baby storytime, early literacy activities, February Fine Amnesty, euchre, and February art classes. Library staff will bring the book mobile, art and pc classes and a book club to the senior center. Wisconsin Dells participated in Go Big Read! Spring Green: Kathleen Kosiec reported on their after school art classes, Lego Mind Storm club, coloring nights, sewing machines for their coffee and craft programs, their book club and an upcoming program with a Wisconsin State Journal cartoonist. The Friends donated $700 to the library from their fundraising efforts.
10.Next meeting and adjournment: Morford made a motion and Meise seconded to adjourn. Passed unanimously.
