Librarians Present: Kathleen Kosiec, Spring Green; Sue Ann Kucher, Reedsburg; Raina Roloff, North Freedom; Mark Ibach, SCLS; Meg Allen, Baraboo; Jennifer Endres Way, Prairie du Sac; Carolyn Ford, Plain
I. Call to Order: Judy Ashford called the meeting to order and verified compliance with the open meetings law at 9:05 a.m.
II. Adoption of Agenda: Sue Meise moved and Bev Vaillancourt seconded a motion to adopt the agenda. Passed unanimously.
III. Approval of Minutes: Sue Meise moved and Judy Ashford seconded a motion to approve the May 11, 2015 minutes. Passed unanimously.
IV. Budget Request: The Board reviewed the 2016 Sauk County Library Board budget request and suggested some changes. Ken Grant moved and Bev Vaillancourt seconded a motion to approve the 2016 budget request as amended. Passed unanimously.
V. 2016-2020 Sauk County Library Serve Plan: The Board reviewed the 2016-2020 Sauk County Library Service Plan and suggested some changes. Bev Vaillancourt moved and Sue Meise seconded a motion to approve the Plan as amended. Passed unanimously.
VI. SCLS Report: Mark Ibach reminded the Board and Librarians that on August 17-21 is Trustee Training Week and that various webinars would be available. A Stop Motion Animation Kit is now available. The Cornerstone Award Program will take place in Portage on November 19, 2015. Board members expressed interest in supporting library award nominations, and Barbara Morford, Sue Meise, and Bev Vaillancourt will form a subcommittee to review submissions on October 13, 2015 at 9 a.m. in Plain. Finally, Mark Ibach indicated that the SCLS website redesign is progressing.
VII. Cynthia Shanks Memorial: Just over $300 has been received for the memorial to Cynthia Shanks. Libraries need to communicate their book requests.
VIII. Librarians' Reports: Plain: Carolyn Ford reported that the library is working on an update of its Communication Room technology. Baraboo: Meg Allen reported that UW-BSC Library Academic Librarian Cate Booth and Meg Allen presented memoir writing workshops at several Sauk County public libraries to promote the Sauk County community memoir that will be published in the fall. The authors of the individual memoirs selected for publication will be invited to read their stories during a special session at the Summerset Festival of the Arts
on August 22. The first "graduates" of the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten early literacy program marched in the Big Top Parade on July 25 in caps, gowns, and clown noses! Summer
reading programs are winding down to completion on August 8. Prairie du Sac: Jennifer Endres Way reported that the carpet in the library has been reinstalled. Summer programs are winding down. North Freedom: Raina Roloff reported that the library has received new computers. Rock Springs: The Summer Bash will end on August 6, 2015. Reedsburg: Sue Ann Kucher indicated that the library is currently feeling the loss of Maureen Palmer to retirement. Spring Green: Kathleen Kosiec indicated that she started on July 1, 2015, and has created both Printerest and Twitter accounts for the library. The Children's Librarian received a grant.
IX. Next Meeting: November 17, 2015 at Spring Green at 9:00 a.m.
X. Motion to Adjourn: Bev Vaillancourt moved and Barbara Morford seconded a motion to
adjourn. Passed unanimously.
