- Moved by Sue Meise seconded by Bob Wills a motion to approve the minutes. Passed unanimously.
- Maureen Palmer provided a librarian’s report regarding activities at the various libraries. Spring Green has a newly formed after school Lego club which had 60 children attending its first meeting. Spring Green also purchased a number of new Blueray disks. Reedsburg has new signage and landscaping. Reedsburg is investigating a Square Up application which would allow patrons to pay charges via their debit cards. The Plain library is now open 42 hours a week. A position was created for an On Call Library Assistant. Youth programming is being offered again. A series of three cooking demos titled “Friday Night Foodies” was a popular adult program. Plain also developed a marketing logo and the library was a recipient of an AHHP grant for summer 2012 “Sharing Your Story” youth programs. Prairie du Sac will be moving early in June and will be open for business in their new library on June 16th. Sauk is looking into purchasing a three-d printer. Ben has found a way to attract teen boys by forming a “Makers Group”. Baraboo has been approved for a bandwidth increase. Baraboo is working to get scheduled into the city’s capital plan for the addition to the building. Its book sale is this week.
- SCLS Report: Denise Anton Wright introduced herself. She is the former director of the New Glarus public library. She started her position with SCLS on February 20th. In the brief period that she has been in her position, she has worked to prepare the annual reports for the libraries and worked on documents for library reimbursement. Libraries have until July 1st to submit their requests for cross border reimbursement. The DPI is considering state level library cards that would be good across the state. In addition, they are looking into a single shared online catalog. There is also a move to consider consolidation or merging of some library systems.
- The Board discussed the concept of ensuring that municipal library boards include at least one town resident on their boards. Denise Anton Wright indicated that composition of library boards is mandated by state law. Bev suggested that the board consider making a recommendation that municipal libraries should consider making sure that their boards have at least one member from a township. Denise will share the formula for library board makeup with Maureen who will share it with the Sauk County Library Board. Carolyn Forde indicated that it is appropriate to have township representation on the municipal library board and that librarians are in a position to recommend township individuals who take advantage of their municipal libraries and who could serve effectively.
- Preliminary Budget Discussion: Denise provided a handout which gives an overview of the county reimbursement requirements and process. The Board reviewed the handout, and Denise answered questions regarding cross border usage.
- Meg Allen indicated that there was an error in the spreadsheet indicating adjacent counties’ revenue due to a spreadsheet error: Cross Plains was inadvertently listed twice on the Reimbursement Requested by Libraries form. $2024 in excess will be applied to next year’s budget.
- Formation of Budget Subcommittee: Judy Ashford, Bev Vaillancourt, and Bob Wills volunteered to serve on this committee.
- Next Meeting: Tuesday, July 10, 2012, at Spring Green.
- Moved by Tom Benson seconded by Cindy Shanks a motion to adjourn. Passed unanimously.
