EBDM Summit Bill Orth reported on the January 28th and 29th Evidence Based Decision Making Summit(EBDM) sponsored by the National Institute of Corrections which was attended by 3 committee members, 2 stakeholders and the county board chair. This Summit presented the work of the 7 EBDM pilot sites, 2 of which are in Wisconsin, Milwaukee and Eau Claire Counties. All sites have successfully developed an Evidence Based Decision making process that began the redesign of their Criminal Justice Systems. Common elements of these processes included formation of Criminal Justice Coordinating Committees (CJCCs), the use of evidence based offender risk and needs assessment tools and comprehensive review of the current system by the CJCC. All attendees found the Summit to be very valuable and believed it confirmed that, although Sauk County is early in the process, we are on the right track.
