The Sauk County Health Department is working closely with the Village of Prairie du Sac due to the notification today of a contaminated water sample.  If there are any concerns regarding the fecal coliform boil water orders please contact the Village of Prairie du Sac at (608) 643-2421.

Fecal coliform bacteria presence indicates that the water may be contaminated with bacteria from warm blooded animals. This may or may not cause illness. Symptoms to watch for would be diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, vomiting, fever, or other symptoms. If you experience any of these symptoms and they persist, please take extra care with personal hygiene and contact your personal health care provider

Because of these results, the Village of Prairie du Sac Water is recommending all to boil or use bottled water for drinking, food preparation, making baby formula, coffee, juices, other beverages or bathing infants.

  • Use bottled water or boil tap water for ONE MINUTE (rolling boil) before using it
  • Throw out ice cubes in freezers and use commercial ice
  • Do Not brush teeth with unboiled tap water
  • Do Not wash open wounds with unboiled tap water
  • Water is safe for bathing (except infants), showering, washing hands, and washing dishes IF the final rinse is boiled water. Automatic dishwashers that heat-dry the dishes may be used safely

Within the Village of Prairie du Sac, those that have been notified are as follows:

  • Hospitals and other health care facilities
  • Medical and Dental Clinics
  • Schools and day care centers
  • Restaurants
  • Local Emergency Government

The Village of Prairie du Sac has issued a boil water order until further notice.
