ONE SAUK, NATURALLY

Sauk County has several important plans in process: the Great Sauk Trail; the Place Plan; the Next Generation report by the Millennial Task Force; Smart Growth; and many others. Each in its own way is focused on optimizing the region’s considerable natural and recreational assets while developing Sauk County as a place the next generation – of residents and visitors - will enjoy.

All of the plans outlined above will require focus - a shared vision - plus greater collaboration among current partners and new collaborations with partners who are emerging.

One Sauk, Naturally is a groundbreaking opportunity to shape a common vision for Sauk County, a new relationship with the Ho-Chunk Nation, and a prosperous future for current and future generations.

The objectives of this project, One Sauk, Naturally, meet the criteria of the Local Government Institute of Wisconsin’s (“LGI”) Future Regions initiative and embrace the ideas outlined above. The objectives include:

• Nurture and solidify cross-sector and intergovernmental partnerships, led by the Ho-Chunk Nation, Sauk County, and the county’s five Chambers of Commerce.

• Engage a broad cross-section of stakeholders, e.g. millennials, activists, entrepreneurs, educators, high schoolers, leaders from villages and townships, for their input and ideas for Sauk County’s future vision.

• Identify and prioritize the most critical trends facing the county, so that plans laid in the near-term are responsive and sustainable.

• Develop dynamic future-facing plans rooted in new collaborations. This brings more people into the execution phase, so that One Sauk, Naturally has multiple leaders and is more resilient.
