Criminal Justice Coordinating Council

Originally created in August of 2013, the Justice Continuum was transitioned into a formal Criminal Justice Coordinating Council by the County Board after a unanimous vote in January of 2014.  The transition to a CJCC further ensures and promotes the collaborative efforts of interagency and intergovernmental committee members.

The Criminal Justice Coordinating Council is comprised of three appointed county board members, a Circuit Court Judge, the District Attorney, a designee from the Sheriff’s Department, the Human Services Director, the Public Defender’s Office, the Probation Supervisor, a School District Representative, a Domestic Violence professional, the Local Police Chief, a Physician or Nurse familiar with addiction issues, a Private Defense Attorney, and a Citizen-At-Large.

The Criminal Justice Coordinating Council will: develop an understanding of how cases are processed from arrest to final disposition, specifically persons who are spending time in the jail system; lead policy development on the initiation, development and utilization of other correctional sanctions and options; and recommend and develop subcommittees.

The Criminal Justice Coordinating Council hired a full time Criminal Justice Coordinator who will develop, implement, administer, evaluate, and when necessary modify alternative sentencing programs for the CJCC. The Criminal Justice Coordinator’s duties will also include grant management, budget and policy oversight, along with coordination and consultation amongst public and governmental officials.
