DATE NOTICE MAILED: Monday, March 02, 2015
PREPARED BY: J. Krueger, Criminal Justice Coordinator

Members present: Lt. Lewis Lange, Deb O’Rourke, Kevin Calkins, Kathy Laatsch, and Jerry Strunz
Members absent:
Others Present: Amanda Hanson, Stephanie Johnson, Sylvia Kriegl
The meeting was called to order and certification of Open Meeting compliance was given at 3:15 P.M. Motion by Strunz, second by Laatsch to adopt agenda. Motion carried.
Public Comment: Sylvia Kriegl states that she finds the activities of the CJCC very interesting; specifically tasks geared at saving money, time, and making improvements.
Communications: None
Data Gathered: L. Lange reports that he has completed gathering about 1/3 of the data requested from his department. Based on the application due date it is determined that all data will be turned into J. Krueger by March 16, 2015.
K. Calkins reports that his portion of data is turned in, reporting that there was a substantial amount of data that would take extensive support to draw out of the system.
D. O’Rourke reports data on the number of cases charged; broken into criminal traffic, criminal misdemeanor, and criminal felony. D. O’Rourke reports that the high percentage of those who qualify for public defenders indicates a substantial poverty issue in Sauk County that should be a focus of our efforts to reduce jail populations.
Task Assignment: The application is broken down by category and question, each member will write down points to be made and J. Krueger will write up the application.
There is question about locating previously awarded grants through the MacArthur Foundation as a template and it is determined that each member will brainstorm questions and it will be discussed at the next meeting. The subcommittee also determines that the primary motivation needs to be defined before questions can be appropriately answered.
Discussion regarding the budget creates awareness that grant funds can be used to supplant existing positions in addition to hiring a part-time term data analyst. There is discussion about this possibly being an intern or student through either University of Wisconsin Baraboo or University of Wisconsin Madison. L. Lange will contact Ray Lueck to inquire if there would be an option for this position to be a DOJ employee.
Public Comment: Sylvia Kriegl reports that Bill Harris is active in the People Helping People Program which could be a possible community resource.
