Minutes of the Regular Meeting

June 10, 2015

Members present:  Judy Ashford, John Dietz, Eric Peterson, William Hambrecht, Alan Anderson,                                                Marty Krueger, Donna Stehling

Members absent:  None

UWEX Staff Present: Sue Nagelkerk, Meg Sage, Katie Pfeiffer

Call to Order

            The meeting was called to order at 9:02 AM by Chair Ashford.

Certification of Open Meeting Notice

            Requirements of the Open Meeting Law were met.

Approval of Agenda

Motion made by Dietz, second by Stehling to approve the agenda.  Motion carried.

Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting

Motion made by Hambrecht, second by Peterson to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of May 13, 2015.  Motion carried.

Public Comment: 

None

Communications: 

• Summerset Festival of the Arts – on the Square, Al Ringling Mansion – August 22

Review Budget and Approval of Vouchers:

Motion was made by Hambrecht, second by Stehling to approve the UW Extension vouchers for the month of May in the amount of $2,996.39.  Motion carried. 

Motion was made by Stehling, second by Hambrecht to approve the Arts & Culture vouchers for the month of May in the amount of $4,000.00.  Motion carried.

Department Updates:

UW Extension

• 4-H Summer Intern, Amber Schneider has started her summer by planning Day Camps in July and August; coordinating with Mike McShane/Lemonade Workshop and planning of Discover WI trip to the Eau Claire area
• Protective factors – workshop on June 24
• Summer Lunch Bunch

Arts & Culture

• Wisconsin Arts Board Grant Award of $7,010.00 for 2016

Update on Capital Connections –

• Update given by Dietz and Stehling:  The 4-H youth attending did a stellar job of promoting the University of Wisconsin – Extension.

Discussion/possible action:  2016 Mission, Vision, Goals and Performance Measures for Arts and Culture:  

• Discussion will benefit new members of the committee.   Agenda item will be postponed to the July meeting.

Discussion/possible action:  2016 Mission, Vision, Goals and Performance Measures for Sauk County UW Extension:  

• Discussion will benefit new members of the committee.   Agenda item will be postponed to the July meeting.

Agents’ Reports:  

• Katie Pfeiffer, Ag Agent:   Judging market goats, careers and youth days; Coordinating 3 grazing classes; Rural Landowner workshop in July; Dairy Breakfast at Dairy Forage Research Center; Ag Plastics; Spring Green – Manure/fertilization comparisons; Farm Technology Days, August 25-27 at Statz’s in Sun Prairie; need 90 volunteers.

• Meg Sage, 4-H Youth Dev. Agent:  4-H presents to the Sauk County Board in September;

4-H Camp June 12-15; co-chairing JCEP Conference in 2016 at Chula Vista; facilitating club meetings; Curriculum update and goals-one book per youth member per year, most youth do 6 projects, see 4-H curriculum list.

• Sue Nagelkerk, Family Living Agent:  HCE presents to the Sauk County board in October

Consideration of Applications for Good Idea Grants:

• Boys & Girls Clubs West Central WI:  Requested $500 to establish the BGC Baraboo Harmonix Show Choir to enable our area youth to explore the possibility to sing and dance, create original material and work with some of the best choreographers and directors in our area. Motion by Hambrecht, second by Stehling to approve $500 for the BGC Baraboo Harmonix Show Choir.   Motion carried.

Motion was made by Dietz, second by Peterson to adjourn the meeting.   Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 10:45 AM.
