Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM by Chair Ashford.
Certification of Open Meeting Notice
Requirements of the Open Meeting Law were met.
Approval of Agenda
Motion made by Peterson, second by Hambrecht to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting
The date is incorrect on the top of the minutes that were sent out. Motion made by Hambrecht, second by Peterson to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of January 14, 2015 with the date correction as noted. Motion carried.

- Wisconsin Historical Society newsletter was received
Review 2014 Budget and Approval of Vouchers for 2014 and Pre-pay 2015:
Motion was made by Hambrecht, second by Peterson to approve the UW Extension vouchers for the month of December (2014) in the amount of $3,095.89 and January 2015 in the amount of $2,341.72. Motion carried.
Motion was made by Dietz, second by Hambrecht to approve the Arts & Culture vouchers for the month of January 2015 in the amount of $11,000. Motion carried.
Department Updates:
- Update on Lynn Zick position reclassification
- Update on AHHP panels for grant evaluations in March
- Jenny & Sue gave a report on Dean Rick Klemme’s outreach to the Resource Advocacy Network (RAN) and the budget cuts to the UW-System including potential impacts to Cooperative Extension
- John Exo gave a report on the budget cuts to ERC
- Sue reported on the upcoming garden seminar and Cowonomics programs
Discussion and Consideration of Strategic Issues for Board Mid-Term Discussion
Ideas were discussed and two strategic issues were formulated to be discussed and acted upon at the March committee meeting.
Discussion and Possible Action on the UW Extension Department 2014 Annual Report
Motion by Stehling, second by Dietz to approve the UW Extension Department 2014 Annual Report to be submitted to Kathy Schauf. Motion carried.
Discussion and Possible Action on Capitol Connections 2015 in Madison
Sue Nagelkerk talked about previous contacts between UW Extension Arts & Culture Committee members and our representatives in Madison and also mentioned the upcoming Capitol Connections 2015. Supervisor Stehling is planning to attend and Supervisor Peterson will check his schedule and will possibly also be attending. This item to be discussed further at the March committee meeting and approvals given for the supervisors that will be attending.
Discussion and Possible Action on Request by Katie Pfeiffer for Permission to travel Out-of-Country
Katie Pfeiffer handed out information on International Extension Programming and requested permission to travel out-of-country to Nicaragua from March 15 – 29, 2015, for the Farmer to Farmer program. There will be no cost to Sauk County; expenses for travel and accommodations are to be covered by UW Cooperative Extension in Madison. Motion by Peterson, second by Dietz to approve Katie Pfeiffer’s request to participate in the Farmer to Farmer program in Nicaragua which is to be followed by a workshop in Sauk County on the results/experience. Motion carried.
Discussion and Possible Action on Request by Meg Sage for Permission to Travel Out-of-State
Meg Sage reported to the committee that people are volunteering less for long-term projects or commitments, but episodic volunteerism is rising. She requested permission to travel to Maine from May 1 – 10, 2015, to participate in the National Extension Conference on Volunteerism. There will be no cost to Sauk County government as the Sauk County 4-H Senior Leaders Board has allocated $1,000 towards her expenses. Motion by Stehling, second by Peterson to approve Meg Sage’s request to attend the National Extension Conference on Volunteerism. Motion carried.
Presentation of AHHP Final Reports
This item was tabled until the March committee meeting due to Lynn Zick’s absence.
Agents’ Annual Review
Meg Sage, 4-H: Meg presented her quarterly report to the committee on her activities and also gave a more in-depth report on the Vision to Action survey findings.
Jenny Erickson, CNRED: Jenny gave an update on potential changes to the role of UW-Extension in the Sauk County Institute of Leadership program and the Sauk County drinking water testing program.
Consideration of Applications for Good Idea Grants
- The Reedsburg Historic Preservation Commission has requested $500 to place a historical marker to commemorate the former creameries of Reedsburg. Motion by Hambrecht, second by Stehling to approve a Good Idea Grant in the amount of $500 to the Reedsburg Historic Preservation Commission. Motion carried.
- The Creative Alliance of Baraboo (CAB) Theatre requested $500 to help offset costs associated with two sets of Play in a Weekend youth theatre workshops. Motion by Stehling, second by Dietz to approve a Good Idea Grant in the amount of $500 to CAB Theatre. Motion carried.
