Report to the Committee on the UW Extension Office Civil Rights Review Day
Sue Nagelkerk gave a brief report to the committee on the UW Extension Department’s civil rights review process that was held on November 18, 2014. The department passed with a rating of 3 out of a possible 4 grade evaluations.
Discussion and Possible Action on Badger History Group’s Request for Extension of the Completion Deadline to use the 2014 AHHP Grant
Orie Eilertson from the Badger History Group appeared before the committee to request an extension to complete the archival project that they received grant funding for in 2014. There have been roadblocks for the group that were put up by the U.S. Army and the Wisconsin DNR. Building 207 is not ADA compliant and had been grandfathered in until the building use changed; now in order to have public access, the building must be made ADA compliant.
BHG is in the process of raising $35,000 to be matched with $50,000 from the WI DNR; the project, which encompasses archiving 160 boxes of BAAP materials and artifacts, will be available for public viewing after the building is renovated.
Motion by Stehling, second by Peterson to approve the Badger History Group’s request for an extension of their completion deadline. Motion carried.
Discussion and Possible Action for Extension of Jenny Erickson’s Local Government Center Specialist Position until July 2015
Jenny Erickson requested permission from the committee to continue her one day per week employment with the Local Government Center in Madison until July 2015. She is working on a research project that will help her towards her scholarly work in UW Extension and the funding is being provided by LGC. Motion by Stehling, second by Dietz to approve Jenny Erickson’s request for an extension of her position at the Local Government Center until July 2015. Motion carried.
Supervisor Peterson stated that he feels that Jenny’s work at LGC is an asset to the Sauk County community.
Agents Monthly Reports
Sue Nagelkerk, Family Living: Sue reported to the committee on the Lunch –n- Learn that was held on October 28, 2014, featuring Dr. Julie Poehlmann-Tynan talking about the Young Children of Jailed Parents research study that was done in Sauk County. There were 90 attendees from various agencies and school systems and there were many conversations started about next steps to be taken in the action phase. Committee members suggested that Sue also take this report to the Intercounty Coordinating Committee and Wisconsin Counties Association meetings.
Sue also talked briefly about her child care training entitled The Civility Code.
