Minutes of the Regular Meeting
December 22, 2011

UWEX Staff Present: Jenny Erickson, Sue Nagelkerk, John Exo
Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM by Chair Ashford.
Certification of Open Meeting Notice
Requirements of the Open Meeting Law were met.
Approval of Agenda
Motion made by Smoke, second by Nobs to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting
Motion made by Wiese, second by Stehling to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of November 29, 2011. Motion carried.

Communications
Nagelkerk shared how extension celebrated Christmas by giving to a family in need.
Review Budget and Approval of Vouchers
UW Extension: Motion was made by Nobs, second by Smoke to approve the vouchers for the month of November in the amount of $2863.07. Motion carried.
Arts & Culture: A motion was made by Wiese, second by Stehling to approve the vouchers for the month of November in the amount of $4799.00. Motion carried.
Updates/Reports
UW Extension:
o Agriculture Agent position- Extension will repost position in early February concurrent with Columbia County’s Ag posting. Erickson asked committee if they felt it would be beneficial to work with Columbia Co. to focus on hiring agents specialized in crops/soils and livestock areas. Committee would like to hold off on doing a joint interview until they see what the applicant pool brings before making that judgment. Erickson will set up a visioning session with Matt Hanson prior to posting the Ag position to help determine the position priorities inviting people utilizing the services most.
o Reaching Multicultural families in WI – Nagelkerk does “Summer Lunch Bunch” in Wisconsin Dells, which is a very diverse community
Arts & Culture:
o Stehling reported on Sauk Prairie Youth Choir that our mini grant monies help fund
Agents Monthly Reports
Jon Exo – Natural Resources Educator reported. Twelve educators are located around that state (see handout). Exo states it is easier to stay connected to Sauk County through his work because of his office here at the West Square Building. “Learn About Your Land” classes to be offered at Baraboo UW campus and UW Richland Center campus; in addition to statewide support for DNR in “Clean Water Act.”
Jenny Erickson – CNRED – curriculum includes ongoing organizational development and work on facilitating strategic planning processes. Erickson recently completed Mirror Lake Planning and has been contacted to possibly facilitate the Lake Redstone and Circus Historical Society strategic planning. Krueger suggested Lake Virginia may benefit from using Extension resources to “build a sense of community.”
Good Idea Grant Final Reports for 2011
Erickson reviewed the 2011 Good Idea Mini Grant report indicating the organization, project, approval date, amount and return of final report.
Consideration of Applications for Good Idea Grants
1. Jack Young Middle School– Requested $500 to help fund local singer-song writers to assist in teaching song writing. Motion made by Stehling, second by Smoke to approve the Good Idea Grant for $500.00 to the Jack Young Middle School, Baraboo-Gary Frisch. Motion carried.
2. Marnie Bullock Dresser–Requested $500 for “Creativity on the Tracks.” Motion made by Nobs, second by Wiese to approve the Good Idea Grant for $500 to Marnie Bullock Dresser. Motion carried.
Change the UW Extension Committee meeting to a different date
Committee agreed to change meeting date to 4th Wednesday of every month beginning in January.

Adjournment
