Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM by Chair Ashford.
Certification of Open Meeting Notice
Requirements of the Open Meeting Law were met.
Election of Officers
A motion was made by Stehling, second by Smoke to nominate Ashford as chair person.
A motion was made by Stehling, second by Smoke to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Ashford for chair person. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Ashford, second by Detter to nominate Donna Stehling as vice chair.
A motion was made by Smoke, second by Detter to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Stehling for vice chair. Motion carried.
A motion was made by Stehling, second by Detter to nominate Joan Smoke as secretary.
A motion was made by Dietz, second by Stehling to close nominations and cast a unanimous ballot for Smoke for secretary. Motion carried.
Approval of Agenda
Motion made by Stehling, second by Smoke to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting
Motion made by Smoke, second by Stehling to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of March 28, 2012. Motion carried.

Communications
o Nagelkerk shared correspondence from Sauk Prairie Riverway
o Thank you from Aldo Leopold Foundation
o Krueger welcomed the new committee and the new members, Dietz and Detter
o Krueger was made aware that our citizen member should be a school district administrator; Krueger will attempt to find aadministrator, but suggests Al Anderson continue to be part of the committee in the meantime
o Sauk County Board training will be held Friday, April 27 @ 8:00am starting at the West Square Building and traveling throughout the day.
Welcome and Orientation to UW Extension – presentation to new committee members to help them understand the vision and role of UWEX.
-Committee members suggested a calendar of upcoming programs/events be made available.
Review Budget and Approval of Vouchers
UW Extension: Motion was made by Stehling, second by Smoke to approve the vouchers for the month of March in the amount of $3,108.03. Motion carried.
Arts & Culture: Ashford reviewed remaining budget for grants. Motion was made by Smoke, second by Stehling to approve the vouchers for the month of March in the amount of $542.74. Motion carried.
Updates/Reports
UW Extension:
o Agriculture agent position final interviews will be held May 3, 2012 at West Square Building. 4-H/Youth Development Agent interviews in the process of arranging.
o 100th UWEX Anniversary- A reception will be held prior to the June 19 County Board meeting from 5:00-6:00pm with Culver’s ice cream being served. Committee members encouraged to attend.
Arts & Culture:
o None
Alice in Dairyland Scholarship Recommendations:
o Christian Malsatzki, 4-H/Youth Dev. Agent reviewed and recommended three (3) recipients to receive Alice in Dairyland scholarships. A motion was made by Smoke, second by Dietz to approve recipients: Molly Wight, Baraboo; Erin Sorge, Baraboo; and Kayla Fuller, Baraboo to each receive $500. Motion carried.
2012 State WACEC Conference – June 24-26 in Green Bay
Nagelkerk shared information on the upcoming conference. Motion was made by Dietz, second by Detter to approve registration/expenditures for Stehling and Smoke to attend the 2012 State WACEC Conference in Green Bay. Motion carried.
Permission for J Erickson to teach in Guyana for two weeks in May, 2012
Ashford commented on the opportunity for Erickson to teach in Guyana (an English speaking country located between Brazil and Venezuela). Motion was made by Dietz, second by Smoke to approve Erickson teaching in Guyana in May, 2012. Motion carried. Committee asked that Erickson report on her teaching opportunity to the county board.
UW Extension Staff Monthly Reports
Nagelkerk, FLE
o Upcoming Lunch N Learn on heroin will be held in May, Room B-30
o Jail Study research grant has hired a half-time research specialist, Sarah Maleck, for sixteen months.
Baumgart, WNEP
o Continues to educate food pantry and school aged youth, educates on how to shop for nutritious food on a low budget. WNEP audience and guidelines discussed.
Consideration of Applications for Good Idea Grants
1. Cynthia Miller– Requested $500 to fund painting of 3 murals in Sauk Prairie. Motion was made by Smoke, second by Stehling to approve the Good Idea Grant for $500. Motion carried.
2. Sandra Hansen- Requested $500 for North Freedom art club. Budget of supplies only add up to approximately $450. Motion made by Detter, second by Dietz to approve on the Good Idea Grant for $450 to Sandra Hansen. Motion carried.
3. Spring Green Literary Festival– Requested $500 to help fund Suspense in Spring Green. Budget not clear. Motion was made by Detter, second by Smoke to deny the Good Idea Grant for $500 pending clarification of budget. Motion carried.
