Minutes of the Regular Meeting

MARCH 13, 2013

Members present:  Judy Ashford, Joan Smoke, John Dietz, Mark Smooth Detter, Donna Stehling          

Members absent:     None

Guests Present:     Marty Krueger, Kathy Schauf, Al Anderson

UWEX Staff Present:  Jenny Erickson, Christian Malsatzki, Sue Nagelkerk and Danielle Varney

Call to Order

            The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM by Chair Ashford.

Certification of Open Meeting Notice

            Requirements of the Open Meeting Law were met.

Approval of Agenda

Motion made by Detter, second by Dietz to approve the agenda.  Motion carried.

Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting

Motion made by Dietz, second by Smooth to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of February 12, 2013.  Motion carried.

Public Comment   

None

Communications

• Intergovernmental meeting date has changed from March 26 to April 25
• Rick Klemme correspondence shared by Erickson regarding Federal funding affected by sequester

Review 2013 Budget and Approval of Vouchers

UW Extension:    Budget reviewed.   Motion was made by Smoke, second by Dietz to approve the vouchers for the month of February in the amount of $3,103.11.  Motion carried. 

Arts & Culture:   Budget reviewed.  Motion was made by Smoke, second by Stehling to approve the vouchers for the month of February in the amount of $525.48.  Motion carried. 

UW Extension, Arts & Culture Updates/Reports

• 2013 State WACEC Conference will be April 8-10 in Madison.  Smoke and Stehling are statewide officers and will attend with Nagelkerk and Malsatzki.  Auction items are being sought.  Nagelkerk will write a letter to present to possible donators explaining WACEC and UWEX. 
• Fall Art Tour Video presented by Al Anderson

Agents Monthly Reports

Danielle Varney, WNEP

• School Survey of Household Food Needs

Sue Nagelkerk, FLE

• Sauk County Health and Wellness Collaboration

Alice in Dairyland Scholarship Recommendations:

• Christian Malsatzki, 4-H/Youth Dev. Agent and Katie Pfeiffer, Ag Agent reviewed and recommended two (2) recipients to receive Alice in Dairyland scholarships.  They were the only 2 applicants to meet the requirements; amount will be increased to $750 each, totaling $1500.  A motion was made by Smoke, second by Stehling to approve recipients:  Jenna Meixelsperger, Spring Green; Drew Dettmann, Baraboo to each receive $750.  Motion carried.

Discussion/Action on possible funding of 2013 AHHP Grants

Humanities & Historic Preservation Grant -evaluation panel minutes of March 11, 2013 special meeting were reviewed. 

The following grants will be awarded:

            -Aldo Leopold Foundation– award full amount of $3,000

            -Baraboo Range Preservation Assn. – award full amount of $1,500

            -Baraboo JYMS - $2,685

            -Circus World Museum Foundation – award full amount of $5,000

            -Sauk Co. Historical Society – award full amount of $2,877

            -Sauk Co. Master Gardener - $3,500

            -Sauk Prairie Area Historical Society – award full amount of $2,500

             -Taliesin Pres. – award full amount of $2,000

            -UW Baraboo Campus Sauk County – Not funded (see panel minutes)

           -Wormfarm Institute – award full amount of $5,000

A motion was made by Smoke, second by Dietz to include funds for grants to the Aldo Leopold Foundation ($3,000) and Circus World Museum Foundation, Inc. ($5,000)

Arts Grant evaluation panel minutes the March 11, 2013 special meeting were reviewed. 

The following grants will be awarded:

           -Al. Ringling Theatre – award full amount of $5,000

           -American Players Theatre – award full amount of $3,000

          -Baraboo Area Chamber of Commerce – Not funded (see panel minutes)

          -Children’s Theatre of Madison – Not funded (see panel minutes)

          -Reedsburg Public Library – award full amount of 1,200

          -The Reedsburg Players – Not funded; recommend reapply as Good Idea Grant with Judy Spring’s assistance

          -Reedsburg Players Community Theatre – award full amount of $5,000

          -River Arts, Inc. – Not funded (see panel minutes)

          -Sauk Co. Instrumental Music Honors – award full amount of $1,750

           -UW Baraboo Campus – Summerset Festival – award full amount of $4,500

           -Wormfarm Institute – award full amount of $5,000

A motion was made by Dietz, second by Stehling to approve the AHHP grants as determined by the committee.  Motion carried.

AHHP and Good Idea Grant Final Report Review

• Remaining final reports were reviewed by Ashford.  

Discussion, possible action Mid-Term Assessment:  Generation of strategic issues

Ideas were generated for strategic issues.  Committee members will critique and finalize at April 17 meeting.

Consideration of Applications for Good Idea Grants

            None reviewed

Motion was made by Smoke, second by Stehling to adjourn the meeting.   Motion carried.
