Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM by Chair Ashford.
Certification of Open Meeting Notice
Requirements of the Open Meeting Law were met.
Approval of Agenda
Motion made by Dietz, second by Smoke to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting
Motion made by Smoke, second by Ashford to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of August 8, 2012. Motion carried.
Public Comment
None
Communications
o Reedsburg Area Historical Society –Pioneer Log Village & Museum brochure was shared with committee. Heritage Days will be held Saturday, Sept. 15th.
Review 2012 Budget and Approval of Vouchers
UW Extension: Much discussion by committee clarifying budget items; clarification needed on MIS charges. Erickson will invite Steve Pate, MIS to attend the October meeting to discuss. Motion was made by Dietz, second by Smoke to approve the vouchers for the month of August in the amount of $10,585.89. Motion carried.
Arts & Culture: Motion was made by Stehling, second by Smoke to approve the vouchers for the month of August in the amount of $4,500.00. Motion carried.
UW Extension, Arts & Culture Updates/Reports
o Southern District WACEC was attended by Stehling and Smoke. Oakwood Fruit Farm was toured as part of the meeting. The State Conference will be held next year at the Concourse in Madison on April 8-10, 2013. Nagelkerk reported that it will be hosted by our district, so Stehling, Smoke and herself will be participating on the planning committee. She also congratulated Smoke for stepping up as Secretary/Treasurer and Stehling as Vice President of the WACEC II Board.
o Regranting meeting – October 15 in Wausau; will need to be attended as part of the grant requirements. Ashford or Lynn Zick will attend to represent Sauk County.
o September 25 – Stehling reported the Hahn House will be dedicated to the National Registry of Historic Places in Sauk City.
o Erickson reported that the UWEX reception/lobby area is all carpeted and we are looking at a more professional look with a TV monitor displaying our upcoming programs and services.
UW Extension Staff Monthly Reports
Katie Pfeiffer, Agriculture Agent -
o Calendar of activities shared with committee since she started her new position in July 2012. Drought main concern in July and August.
o Discussed upcoming trainings and programs she plans to host or attend.
o Pfeiffer has been doing ride-alongs networking around the county.
Jenny Erickson, CNRED Agent –
o Town of LaValle and Woodland residents participated in the Sauk County Rural water testing program in July. Merrimac and Sumpter are the only townships left since the program started and they will be approached next year. Mapping of results were shared. UWEX and Land Conservation plan to continue the program.
o Baraboo Market Analysis was used by two new businesses when making decisions about starting up their new business in Baraboo.
Sauk County Website Overview
Malsatzki presented an overview of the Sauk County and UWEX state website to committee and encourage everyone to visit. UWEX is working on updating and keeping the information current for our users.
Consideration of Applications for Good Idea Grants
Reedsburg Area Historical Society returned $500 good idea grant. Display units were not purchased and therefore the grant will be refunded. Committee requested a thank you be sent by UWEX for return of funds.
Formal resolution to support Wisconsin Bookworms™
Bookworms requested up to $2,500 as needed annually through the Arts & Culture Committee budget in the event they are not able to raise enough through donations. Home & Community Education members answered questions about the reading program that benefits Head Start of Sauk County and is volunteer based. Much discussion. Motion made by Smoke, second by Stehling to approve $2500 annual funding, as needed to the WI Bookworms program. Nay-Mark Smooth Detter. Motion carried.
