Minutes of the Regular Meeting

Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM by Chair Ashford.
Certification of Open Meeting Notice
Requirements of the Open Meeting Law were met.
Approval of Agenda
Motion made by Smoke, second by Detter to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting
Motion made by Smoke, second by Dietz to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of June 27, 2012. Motion carried.
Public Comment
None
Communications
o Letter from Jen Kobylecky, Aldo Leopold Foundation, informing the committee that the opening of the new trail at ALF has been rescheduled to Saturday, August 18th.
o Letter from Fred Dahlinger, Circus Historical Society, commending Baraboo and Sauk County for their hospitality during their national conference held here and also complimenting Jenny Erickson for the work she did on their strategic planning process and final report.
Review Budget and Approval of Vouchers
UW Extension: Motion was made by Stehling, second by Smoke to approve the vouchers for the month of June in the amount of $3,370.91. Motion carried.
Arts & Culture: Motion was made by Smoke, second by Stehling to approve the vouchers for the month of June in the amount of $6,810.15. Motion carried.
Updates/Reports
UW Extension:
o Christian Malsatzki and Katie Pfeiffer both officially on staff as of July 1, 2012.
o WACEC District 2 Summer Meeting will be in Richland County on August 22nd. Stehling and Smoke will be attending since both are officers of the district committee.
o The UW Extension Office received a Kill-A-Watt electricity usage monitor from the state funded by a US Department of Energy grant. This meter will be available to people to check out and use to monitor their electricity use.
Arts & Culture:
o None
Explanation of Postage Line Item (brought back from June 27, 2012 meeting)
Erickson had e-mailed the committee members with an explanation of this item; no further clarification was necessary.
UW Extension Staff Monthly Reports – Jenny Erickson, Community Resource Development Agent and Katie Pfeiffer, Agriculture Agent
Erickson, CNRED-
o Erickson explained the Wisconsin Idea and provided an organizational chart of Extension/Cooperative Extension in order that the committee members better understand the work of the UW Extension Office.
Pfeiffer, Agriculture-
o Pfeiffer introduced herself and her background as well as provided the committee an overview of what she has done her first week on the job and what programming she hopes to implement in the future. She also discussed the drought situation and stated that she is continuing to monitor the situation and answer questions by farmers.
Discussion and Consideration of Updated Good Idea Grant Guidelines and Specifications and Grant Submission Dates
Some changes to the Good Idea Grant application form had been suggested; modifications were made by the committee and agreed upon. The new form will be put on the website immediately, but there still may be an old form that is submitted in upcoming months. The submission date for Good Idea grants will be the 25th of the month prior to the committee meeting to allow for copying and mailing to committee members.
