Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 9:00 AM by Chair Ashford.
Certification of Open Meeting Notice
Requirements of the Open Meeting Law were met.
Approval of Agenda
Motion made by Wiese, second by Stehling to approve the agenda. Motion carried.
Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting
Motion made by Smoke, second by Nobs to approve the minutes of the regular meeting of December 22, 2011. Motion carried.

Extension was commended for a successful Ag visioning session.
River Arts events were shared.
Economics Forecast 2012 meeting in Sauk Prairie.

Review Budget and Approval of Vouchers
UW Extension: Motion was made by Stehling, second by Smoke to approve the vouchers for the month of December in the amount of $2204.62 and for the month of January 2012 in the amount of $92.97. Motion carried.
Arts & Culture: A motion was made by Stehling, second by Wiese to approve the vouchers for the month of December in the amount of $728.84. Motion carried.
Updates/Reports
UW Extension:
o UW Cooperative turns 100-Nagelkerk shared a display idea HCE members are planning to create for this 100 year anniversary
o 2012 State WACEC dates shared
o Alice in Dairyland Scholarship update-transcripts were received from 2 of the 3 recipients at this time
Arts & Culture:
o AHHP grants due February 24; panels will meet on March 13
ACTION ITEM: Consider Approval of Resolution Commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Coop Extension, a division of the UW-Extension
Resolution “Honoring the 100th Anniversary of Coop Extension” was reviewed by committee. Motion was made by Nobs, second by Wiese to adopt the resolution to be forwarded to the February 20 County Board meeting. Motion carried.
ACTION ITEM: Consider Approval of Sauk County Agriculture and Natural Resource Agent position description
Ag/Natural Resource Agent position description reviewed. Motion was made by Stehling, second by Wiese to approve position description and posting of Ag/Natural Resource Agent position. Motion carried.
Arts Day 2012
Ashford shared information on Arts Day 2012 which is being held March 13-14 in Madison.
ACTION ITEM: Consider Approval of Certifications form for Wisconsin Humanities Council mini grant
HCE is planning a period/vintage clothing display to feature outstanding UWEX women in honor of Extension’s 100th Anniversary. Nagelkerk explained how the display would be used and is asking committee’s permission to submit a mini grant application to the Wisconsin Humanities Council in the amount of $2000. Nagelkerk would be listed as project director and L. Zick as fiscal agent. Motion was made by Smoke, second by Stehling to approve submission of Wisconsin Humanities Council mini grant application. Motion carried.
ACTION ITEM: Consider Approval of Dressed for Success and Focused on Families Exhibit
Nagelkerk asking for monetary donation from committee to fund a display featuring UWEX services to be used at county events throughout the year. Display will be portable and stay in Sauk County. Motion made by Wiese, second by Stehling to approve up to a $250.00 expenditure for special project display. Motion carried.
ACTION ITEM: Consider Approval of 2012 UWEX Agent Contracts
2012 UWEX Agent contracts between UWEX and Sauk County were reviewed by committee for signature. Erickson noted a significant savings in salaries due to Ag and 4-H position vacancies.
Agents Monthly Reports
Nagelkerk - Family Living Educator reported on Strong Women, Healthy Hearts program. HCE main fundraiser is coming up- Get Ready, Get Set, Garden on March 31; and the period clothing display being planned by HCE to honor outstanding UWEX women to celebrate 100 years of UWEX were discussed.
Malsatzki – 4-H Youth Development Agent (Interim) –4-H Super Saturday Event will be held Saturday, January 28th at the Baraboo UW Campus which will feature many interesting workshops. Malsatzki has been working with 4-H dairy leaders to bring back the James Crowley Award to Sauk Co. which offers scholarships to outstanding dairy members. MAQA training will be attended and new 4-H project areas are also in the planning process.
Consideration of Applications for Good Idea Grants
1. Nancy W Peidelstein– Requested $500 to help fund shipping and handling of Wisconsin Effect project at Baraboo UW Campus. Committee did not feel exhibit would benefit a broad enough audience and overall the criteria was not met. Motion made by Nobs, second by Stehling to deny the Good Idea Grant for $500.00 to the Nancy Peidelstein project. Motion carried.
2. Sauk County Barn Quilt Committee, c/o Sauk Prairie FFA - Requested $495 for materials to complete barn quilts. Committee would like project to become self-sustaining. Motion made by Smoke, second by Stehling to approve the Good Idea Grant for $500 to Sauk Prairie FFA. Motion carried.
