Sauk County Library Board

November 17, 2015, 9 a.m.

Spring Green Community Library

Board Members Present: Ken Grant, Barbara Morford, Sue Meise, Tom Benson, Judy Ashford, Bev Vaillancourt, Peggy Heidenreich

Librarians Present:  Jennifer Endres Way, Haley Weisert, Martha Van Pelt, Kathleen Kosiec, Meg Allen, Emily Judd, Sue Kucher, Raina Roloff, Carolyn Forde, Pam Thompson

  1. Call to order:  Judy Ashford called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. and verified compliance with the open meeting law.
  2. Adoption of Agenda:   Ken Grant moved and Sue Meise seconded a motion to adopt the agenda.  Passed unanimously.
  3. Approval of Minutes: Sue Meise moved and Barbara Morford seconded a motion to approve the minutes of the last meeting.  Passed unanimously.
  4. SCLS Report: Marty Van Pelt presented the SCLS report.  Nekoosa will join the SCLS system.  The strategic planning process for SCLS has started.
  5. Librarians’ Report.  Prairie du Sac: Jennifer Endres Way reported that the Prairie du Sac Library expects to hire another person should the budget request be approved.  Spring Green: Kathleen Kosiec reported that the Spring Green Library will experience a budgetary increase.  Baraboo: Meg Allen indicated that $30,000 in capital requests has been approved.  Tonight there will be a book discussion which will meet at Con Amici wine bar.  The seed library has been doing well.  Rock Springs:  has raised its necessary operational funds.  Sauk City: Emily Judd reported that the library intends to fill two positions.  The library has received a small budgetary increase.  Reedsburg: Sue Kucher reported that the Reedsburg library has been a busy place.  The Reedsburg Friends of the Library have raised funds for technology and three computers have been ordered.  North Freedom: Raina Roloff reported that the North Freedom library is one of only four five star libraries in the state.  The library is also the receiver of the Super Awesome Library Award of SCLS.  Plain: Carolyn Ford indicated that the libraries have been collaborating on stop motion film-making project.  Plain’s budget hearing will take place on December 2, 2015.  Carolyn Ford shared some personal anecdotes which indicated the important role that libraries have within our communities.  LaValle: Pam Thompson reviewed various library programs including pumpkin decoration, a pot luck dinner on December 3 in support of the friends group, as well as the movie night. 
  6. 2016 Budget Disbursement: The Board discussed the proposed Sauk County Library Board 2016 Budget.  Ken Grant moved and Tom Benson seconded a motion to approve the Sauk County Library Board 2016 Budget as presented.  Passed unanimously.
  1. Review of Annual Calendar: The Board reviewed the Sauk County Library Board Annual Calendar.  Sue Kucher will reorganize the Annual Calendar to make it clearer which items are Board responsibilities and which are librarian responsibilities. 
  2. Library Board Appointment: Tom Benson, Bev Vaillancourt, and Ken Grant will be filling out their terms.  Judy Ashford recognized their service and asked for the librarians to consider individuals for service on the Board. 
  3. Next Meeting: January 12, 2016 at Rock Springs library.
  4. Barbara Morford moved and Peggy Heidenreich seconded a motion to adjourn.  Passed unanimously.
