Minutes of Meeting
Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee

January 10, 2012
The regular meeting of the Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee was held on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at 09:30 am, in the Community Room, 1300 Lange Court, Baraboo, Wisconsin.
The meeting was properly posted and all interested parties were notified.
Members Present: Stevens, Johnson, Tollaksen, Halfen
Members Absent: Sinklair
Members Excused:
Others Present: J. Spencer, K. Fults, J. Fry, G. Hahn, J. Tobin, R. Zuch, D. Madalon, R. Meister, T. Turnquist, T. Kriegl, P. Murray, Schernecker, P. Hefty. W. Wenzel
1. Call to Order and Certification of Open Meeting Law: The meeting was called to order and compliance with the Open Meeting Law was certified by Chair Donald Stevens at 9:30 am

2. Agenda: Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Halfen, to adopt the agenda. Motion carried.

3. Approve minutes of Previous Meeting(s): Motion by Halfen, seconded by Tollaksen approve the minutes from previous meetings on December 13, 2011. Motion carried.

4. Communications:
None

5. Public comment :
Terry Turnquist-Thanking the Sheriff’s Office for their service.
P. Murray-Requesting the Committee to work with Human Services and the Sheriff’s Office to work with homelessness and the space available at the Law Enforcement Center.

6. Appearances :
None

7. Sauk County Animal Shelter operations update:
Animal Shelter took in 32 dogs and adopted/reclaimed 66 dogs. They also took in 99 cats and adopted out 26 in the month of December.

The Animal Shelter had a total of 37 calls and picked up 14 dogs and 18 cats
The Animal Shelter dealt with a total of 6 bite cases; 5 cats and 1 opossum
Opossum was euthanized and sent for testing. The test came back negative.

Dana Madalon is currently the interim director.

8. Review and approve December 2011, expenses for Coroner:
Motion by Halfen, seconded by Tollaksen, to approve payment of the Coroner’s expenses for December 2011, in the amount of $5,551.48. Bills discussed. Motion carried.

9. Review and approve December 2011, expenses for Sheriff:
Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Johnson, to approve payment of the Sheriff’s Department expenses for December 2011 in the amount of $88,224.54. Bills discussed. Motion carried.

10. Sheriff’s Report.
Number of Calls Report handed out. 5,294 calls for service in December 2011. Calls for 2011 were 68,834.
Overtime for December 2011 - 2,074.75 hrs.
There was 62 Prisoner Transports in December 2011. The 2011 totals were 938 prisoner transports.
Prisoner Transport cost for Juveniles was $3,114.39 for transport. Housing bill for December $1,455.00
Civil Process papers served in 2009 2010 and 2011
Year to date housing billing - $485,452.93
Advised Committee of a potential budget overrun
Criterion Study-Have not heard anything from them. Kathy Schauf has sent an email to them about setting up timelines.
Year to date Community Service Hours were 11,429
11. Adjournment

The next regular meeting of the committee was scheduled for February 14, 2012 at 09:30 am. Motion by ¬Tollaksen, seconded by Halfen, to adjourn the meeting at 10:20 am. Motion Carried.
