Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee
December 10, 2013
The regular meeting of the Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee was held on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 09:30 am, in the Community Room, 1300 Lange Court, Baraboo, Wisconsin.
The meeting was properly posted and all interested parties were notified.
Members Present: Stevens, Nobs, Johnson, Tollaksen, Halfen

Others Present: R. Meister, J. Fry, K. Fults, J. Spencer, G. Hahn, R. Zuch, L. Lange, J. Tobin, T. Kriegl
- Call to Order and Certification of Open Meeting Law: The meeting was called to order and compliance with the Open Meeting Law was certified by Chair Donald Stevens at 9:30 am.
- Agenda: Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Johnson, to adopt the agenda. Motion carried.
- Approve minutes of Previous Meeting(s): Motion by Halfen, seconded by Nobs approve the minutes from previous meeting(s) November 5, 2013. Motion carried.
- Communications:
-Thank you card from Charlie Montgomery’s family for the appearance of our Honor Guard.
-Thank you letter from Baraboo School District for Chips attendance at the school during the American Education Week.
-Thank you from Cub Scout pack 377 for the Tour of the facility

- Sauk County Animal Shelter operations update:
Animal Shelter took in 42 dogs and adopted/reclaimed 31 dogs. They also took in 97 cats and adopted out/transferred out 33 in the month of November. The Animal Shelter also took 4 rabbits. They adopted out 1 ferret, 1 guinea pig, 1 rabbit and 1 rat. The Animal Shelter had a total of 34 calls and picked up 26 cats and 13 dogs.
The Animal Shelter dealt with a total of 5 bite cases; 3 dogs and 3 cats.
- Review and approve November 2013, expenses for Coroner:
Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Johnson, to approve payment of the Coroner’s expenses for November 2013, in the amount of $2,550.62. Bills discussed. Motion carried.
- Review and approve November 2013, expenses for Sheriff:
Motion by Halfen, seconded by Tollaksen, to approve payment of the Sheriff’s Department expenses for November 2013 in the amount of $111,633.18. Bills discussed. Motion carried.
10. Consideration and approval of Resolution for Authorization to Purchase One Unmarked Squad Car for 2014. Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Nobs. Motion carried.
11. Sheriff’s Report.
Number of Calls Report handed out. 4,743 calls for service in November 2013.
Overtime Hours for November 2013 915 hours November 2013 was 1686 hours
There was 93 Prisoner Transports in November 2013.
Prisoner Transport cost for 5 Juveniles was $1,390.60. Housing Costs was $4,590.00.
EM Report for November 389 offender days. Collected $6,613.00 and invoiced $1,485.98.
Civil Process 193 papers served.
YTD Housing billing $754,529.44
Sheriff Meister advised the committee that we are going with Vacationland Vending instead of Canteen for 2014 vending services.
Sgt. Eric Miller has taken the Drug Coordinator position. Lt. Jeff Tobin has voluntary taken a demotion to Patrol Sgt. Sgt. Lewis Lange has taken the temporary Jail Lt. position and Adam Gulden has taken the temporary Jail Sgt. Position.
Committee had a lunch from the Jail Food Service.
12. Adjournment
The next regular meeting of the committee was scheduled for January 14, 2013 at 09:30 am. Motion by Johnson, seconded by Tollaksen to adjourn the meeting at10:11 am. Motion Carried.
