Minutes of Meeting

Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee

August 9, 2016

            The regular meeting of the Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee was held on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 04:15 pm, in the Community Room, 1300 Lange Court, Baraboo, Wisconsin.

The meeting was properly posted and all interested parties were notified.

                        Members Present:        B. Wenzel, J.Dietrich, T. Kriegl

Members Absent:

Others Present:            R. Meister, L. Lange, J. Spencer, J. Machovec, M. Stoddard, D. Moore, Media, Public

  1. Call to Order and Certification of Open Meeting Law: The meeting was called to order and compliance with the Open Meeting Law was certified by William Wenzel at 04:52 pm.

 

  1. Agenda:  Motion by Deitrich seconded by Kriegl to adopt the agenda. Motion carried.

 

  1. Approve minutes of Previous Meeting(s): Motion by Deitrich to approve minutes from July in September meeting seconded by Kriegl. Minutes did not post to Granicus for August meeting

 

  1. Communications:

Card from Castle Rock Guardians of Children thanking us for helping keep them safe during their bike ride.

-Letter from Juneau Cty Sheriff thanking us and members of the Sauk County Search and Rescue for their assistance with a several day search for a missing women.

-Email from Columbia Cty Courts thanking Lisa Tourdot for her assistance with some civil process paperwork

 

  1. Public comment :

Doug Klein reference a complaint on the animal shelter.

Warrant Frank regarding mental health in the Jail.

 

  1. Appearances :

Lifesaving award given to Deputy Mike Papara from the Jail.

 

  1. Sauk County Animal Shelter operations update and presentation of 2017 Budget :

Animal Shelter took in 41 dogs and adopted/reclaimed 40 dogs.  They also took in 157 cats and adopted out/transferred out 80 in the month of July. The Animal Shelter also took in 5 rabbits, 1 parakeet, 1 cow. They adopted out 1 cow and 1 rabbit. The Animal Shelter dealt with a total of 20 bite cases 12 dogs and 5 cats. They responded to 56 calls and impounded 20 dogs and 24 cats.

The budget request for $147,000 is the same request from 2016.

 

  1. Review and approve July 2016, expenses for Coroner:

Motion by Deitrich seconded by Kriegl to approve payment of the Coroner’s expenses for July 2016 in the amount of $7,807.91. Bills discussed. Motion carried.

 

  1. Consideration and approval of the 2017 Coroner’s Budget.

            Motion by Deitrich seconded by Kriegl. Motion carried

  1. Review and approve July 2016, expenses for Sheriff:

Motion by Deitrich seconded by Kriegl to approve payment of the Coroner’s expenses for June 2016 in the amount of $118,975.57.  Bills discussed. Motion carried.

 

  1. Consideration and approval of Resolution for Authorization to Purchase One Prisoner Transport Cargo Van for Inmate Transport.

Motion by Deitrich seconded by Kriegl to approve the purchase of a Prisoner Transport Cargo Van.  Motion Carried.

 

  1. Consideration and approval of the 2017 Sheriff’s Budget.

            Motion by Kriegl to amend the Sheriff’s budget and add an additional 6 rentals for a total of 30 rentals.              No second. Motion failed.

            Motion by Deitrich, seconded by Wenzel to approve the 2017 budget proposal.  Aye- Deitrich, Wenzel             Nay-Kriegl. Motion carried

  1. Monthly update on CJCC.

The next regular meeting of the committee was scheduled for Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at 04:15pm. Motion by Deitrich seconded by Krueger to adjourn the meeting at 6:52 pm. Motion Carried.
