May 14, 2013
The regular meeting of the Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee was held on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at 09:30 am, in the Community Room, 1300 Lange Court, Baraboo, Wisconsin.
The meeting was properly posted and all interested parties were notified.
Members Present: Stevens, Nobs, Tollaksen, Johnson, Halfen
Members Absent: None
Members Excused: None
Others Present: R. Meister, J. Spencer, J. Tobin, K. Fults, G. Hahn, R. Zuch, J. Schernecker, W. Weitzel, T. Kriegl
- Call to Order and Certification of Open Meeting Law: The meeting was called to order and compliance with the Open Meeting Law was certified by Chair Donald Stevens at 9:30 am.
- Agenda: Motion by Halfen, seconded by Johnson, to adopt the agenda. Motion carried.
- Approve minutes of Previous Meeting(s): Motion by Halfen, seconded by Nobs, to approve the minutes from previous meeting(s) April 9, 2013. Motion carried.

- Public comment :
Bill Weitzel handed out a booklet, "The Victory for State Sovereignty," on the monumental Supreme Court case that restored the Tenth Amendment, abridged, with foreword and summary by Sheriff Richard Mack. Weitzel hoped that it would help everyone understand our Tenth Amendment. He also handed out another item on "Sheriff Joe." He was thanked for the materials.

- Sauk County Animal Shelter operations update:
Animal Shelter took in 57 dogs, adopted/reclaimed/transferred 49 dogs. They also took in 107 cats and adopted out/reclaimed/transferred out 20 cats in the month of April. The Animal Shelter also took in 1 guinea pig, seized 2 goldfish and adopted out 3 parakeets and the 2 goldfish.
The Animal Shelter had a total of 50 calls and picked up 30 cats, 21 dogs, and 2 goldfish
The Animal Shelter dealt with a total of 15 bite cases; 11 dogs and 4 cats.
- Review and approve April 2013, expenses for Coroner:
There was some discussion as to what happens when no one claims the body of a deceased. Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Johnson, to approve payment of the Coroner’s expenses for April 2013, in the amount of $5,699.31. Motion carried.
- Review and approve April 2013, expenses for Sheriff:
Bills discussed. Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Nobs, to approve payment of the Sheriff’s Department expenses for April 2013 in the amount of $110,334.69.
- Consideration and approval of Resolution Commending William H. Schreiner for Thirty Years of Faithful Service to the People of Sauk County.
Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Halfen. Motion carried.
- Discussion of Wisconsin Counties Association call for resolutions.
Discussion regarding courthouse security. Discussion will be continued at next month's Law Enforcement Committee meeting.
- Sheriff’s Report.
Sheriff Meister sent a letter of commendation to Amy Schara at the Baraboo National Bank for helping solve a crime.
Overtime hours are up because of jail in-service held.

EM Report for April - Total of 563 offender days. Collected $9,571.00 in fees and was invoiced for $2,150.66 for a profit of $7,420.34
YTD Housing Billing $254,804.02
By having Sgts cover post we have saved 144 hours this year alone.
There was some discussion regarding Electronic Monitoring and 911 hang-up calls.

The next regular meeting of the committee was scheduled for June 11, 2013 at 09:30 am. Motion by Nobs, seconded by Tollaksen to adjourn the meeting. Motion Carried.
