Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee

April 9, 2013

            The regular meeting of the Sauk County Law Enforcement Committee was held on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 09:30 am, in the Community Room, 1300 Lange Court, Baraboo, Wisconsin.

The meeting was properly posted and all interested parties were notified.

  1. Call to Order and Certification of Open Meeting Law: The meeting was called to order and compliance with the Open Meeting Law was certified by Chair Donald Stevens at 9:30 am.

 

  1. Agenda:  Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Halfen, to adopt the agenda. Motion carried.

 

  1. Approve minutes of Previous Meeting(s): Motion by Halfen, seconded by Nobs approve the minutes from previous meeting(s) March 12, 2013.  Motion carried.

 

  1. Communications:

Letter from Sauk County Transition Team thanking us for taking part in the Job Shadow Day.

 

Letter from Detective Joshua Ostrowski of Portage County about the positive contact with Deputy Garrett Matthews.

  1. Sauk County Animal Shelter operations update:

Animal Shelter took in 58 dogs and adopted/reclaimed 46 dogs.  They also took in 81 cats and adopted out/transferred out 17 in the month of March. The Animal Shelter also took 1 parakeet, 1 rabbit and 2 ducks and adopted/reclaimed 1 guinea pig and transferred 2 ducks.

 

The Animal Shelter had a total of 51 calls and picked up 17 cats and 20 dogs

The Animal Shelter dealt with a total of 9 bite cases; 6 dogs and 3 cats.

 

The Annual Paws Walk and Fun Festival is coming up on Saturday May 4 at the Sauk County Fairground from 9am to 2pm.

 

  1. Review and approve  March 2013, expenses for Coroner:

Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Johnson, to approve payment of the Coroner’s expenses for March 2013, in the amount of $2,524.55.  Bills discussed. Motion carried.

 

 

  1. Review and approve March 2013, expenses for Sheriff:

Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Nobs, to approve payment of the Sheriff’s Department expenses for March 2013 in the amount of $106,540.62.

 

  1. Sheriff’s Report.

Number of Calls Report handed out. 5,800 calls for service in March 2013.

Letter from Ho Chunk for a $1000 grant for patrol on Click It or Ticket it.

Overtime Hours for March 2013 1,135 hours

There was 97 Prisoner Transports in March 2013. 

Prisoner Transport cost for 7 Juveniles was $1,428.14. Housing Costs was $1,470.00 

Civil Process papers served in March 2013 – 174 papers.

EM Report for March– Total of 489 offender days.  Collected $8,313.00 in fees and were invoiced $1,867.98 for a profit of $6,445.02.

YTD Housing billing $189,299.12

 

March ADP for 2013-197  March ADP for 2012-162.

 

Sheriff Meister explained the USMS budget was cut for transportation but not for housing.  We will continue to transport by combining trips with ours.  Previous years we have billed out approximately $9,000 in transport costs; however by eliminating transport costs we will be able to continue to hold on average 25 inmates per day versus billing transports and averaging 10 inmates per day.

 

D. Nobs asked for an update on Courthouse Security.  Sheriff Meister advises the biggest issue currently is the design of the building since there are so many entrances within the building.

The next regular meeting of the committee was scheduled for May 14, 2013 at 09:30 am. Motion by Halfen, seconded by Nobs to adjourn the meeting at10:23 am. Motion Carried.
