The meeting was called to order and certification of Open Meeting compliance was given at 6:00 p.m.  The agenda was approved on a motion by Polivka, second by Johnson. Motion carried.  The meeting minutes from the prior meeting were approved on a motion by Riek, second by Vedro.  Motion carried.

 

Public Comment  None

 

Communications  Krueger noted Kathy Schauf’s departure and that that developing  meeting minutes will be transitioned to other county staff.

 

Discussion of Placemaking:

 

Review of Placemaking Initiative in Sauk County

Simmert reviewed what the county can do for placemaking, based on five functional areas (see chart).  Reiterated that we are already doing placemaking and opportunities to do more.

Review of Place Branding

Olson reviewed the concept of Place Branding and how this could be applied in Sauk County.  

 

Workforce Trends and Opportunities

Presentation by Pat Schramm regarding current and projected workforce trends in Sauk County, regional trends and projected 2030 job markets.  Discussion ensued about how to attract ‘under 35’ workers and desired workforce.  Not much difference between living in Sauk County or a suburb of Dane County.

 

Discussion of next steps  i. Who are we targeting

 

Erickson reviewed placemaking and place branding discussion questions.  The Committee agreed that place branding has the potential to covey Sauk County’s assets and that it needs to be a multi-faceted approach.  The target audience would be to attract the under age 35 set (millennials), jobs that offer $40,000 per year or higher, and to focus on the healthcare industry.  Establishing a premier k-12 educational system is paramount.  Discussion ensued regarding a conversation that needs to be had with the target audience to develop the brand and determine how the brand will be used and by whom.        

 

Update on Sauk County Development Corporation

Krueger gave an update on the status of the SCDC.

 

Update on Great Sauk Trail Commission

Krueger gave an update on the status and work of the Great Sauk State Trail friends group steering committee.

 

Motion by Stehling , second by Polivka to adjourn.  Motion carried.
