Sauk County Board of Canvassers Meeting

Tuesday, February 23, 2016

8:30 a.m.

West Square Building, 505 Broadway, Room #140, Baraboo, Wisconsin

 

Call to order and certification of compliance with Open Meeting Law at 8:40 a.m.

 

Board of Canvassers present: 

Marcy Huffaker, Sauk County Canvasser; Patricia L. Carignan, Sauk County Canvasser and Rebecca C. Evert,

Sauk County Clerk.

 

Others present: 

Sarah Statz, Deputy County Clerk      

 

Canvassers reviewed the zero report tapes to verify all totals were zero at the beginning of the night on the tabulation equipment.  Votes cast at the February 16, 2016 Spring Primary Election were verified reviewing the highest number of votes cast is the same or less than the highest numbers of voters reporting on poll lists, and verifying that the number of ballots cast is the same or less than the highest number of voters on the poll lists.  Inspectors’ Statements and Incident Logs were also reviewed and canvass incidents and adjustments noted. 

 

Provisional ballots were canvassed and counted.

 

Late arriving absentee ballots were canvassed and counted.

 

The following discrepancy was noted:

Town of Freedom

They showed 79 voters total with the results tape saying 29 for Ward 1 and 50 for Ward 2. According to their clerk, Jenny Pappas, when entering voters into WisVote it was discovered there were only 28 voters for Ward 1 and 51 voters for Ward 2. It is believed an election worker selected the wrong ward number on the touch screen machine, causing a voter to vote with the wrong ballot.
