Call to order and certification of compliance with Open Meeting Law at 9:00 A.M.

Others present: Rebecca A. DeMars, Sauk County Clerk
Canvass votes cast at the April 1, 2014 Spring Election. The Canvassers were each provided a tabular report with election night results generated from the State Canvass system. These results were directly downloaded from GEMS database on election night and uploaded into the State Canvass system to report the unofficial results election evening to the State. Canvassers used this report to confirm correctness when comparing each reporting unit’s total votes cast for candidate’s on their results tapes, including verifying the highest number of votes cast (OS & TSX combined) is the same or less than the highest numbers of voters on each poll list. Inspectors’ statements, Incident logs and Write In forms were also reviewed. The total number of votes cast for the top races on the ballot which was Court Of Appeals – District 4 was also compared to total number of voters, to make sure there was no big drop off of votes cast to total voters.
The following were noted by the board of canvassers:
No late Absentee/Provisional ballots received.
Late arriving absentee ballots were canvassed and adjusted accordingly.
Town of Greenfield; we reviewed US mail postage date on 3 spoiled ballots verifying they needed to be included in votes cast
Town of Honey Creek; 1 outstanding returned
Town of Merrimac; 5 outstanding. ONLY 2 returned and verified votes cast.
Village of Loganville; TSX results were not added to votes cast. (Total of 13 votes cast)
Town of Franklin, Ward 2; 1 over-vote, canvass adjusted
Town of Spring Green, Wards 1 & 4 combined and Ward 2 and Ward 3 poll books had incorrect total of voters reported on each poll books. We contacted the municipal clerk and reconciled each poll book with the total number of voters that showed up to vote at each ward in comparison to the total number of votes cast in each ward. We discovered the error within Ward 3 as there were 3 extra ballots cast than voters reported on this poll book. (Nothing was noted on the incident log).
No votes cast needed to be tossed out as when reconciled; the total number of voters reported on each poll book was greater than the number of votes cast within each poll book. Grand total of voters reported was 129 and grand total of votes cast was 116.
Additionally; some municipalities had one or two outstanding ballots returned and adjusted accordingly on this canvass.
MOTION (Carignan/Huffaker) to break for five minutes. Motion carried unanimously.
Reconvene at 10:50 A.M. for the purpose of continuing canvassing votes cast at the April 1, 2014 Spring Election.
