Get Ready...Get Set...Garden!

Sauk County’s 15th annual “Get Ready…Get Set…Garden!” event will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2015, from 8:30 – 3:00 PM, in the West Square Building in Baraboo.  The popular conference is sponsored by UW Extension, HCE (Home Community Education) and Master Gardeners.

It features classes, an optional lunch, garden vendors, and the Master Gardeners’ popular silent auction.  The cost of classes range from $10.00 to $35.00 with the proceeds benefitting HCE scholarships to local students.

This year, The Gourd Girl (Terri Schmit) will present two classes, one on growing gourds from seed to cleaning for gourd art, and the second will be a hands-on class making decorative pins from pieces of gourd.  Branden Byers, author of The Everyday Fermentation Handbook, will teach a class on making kombucha and everyone will leave with a slice of SCOBY to make their own kombucha at home.

Other class topics are: Dehydrating Garden Produce, Beginning Beekeeping, Container Gardening, Fun for Kids in Nature, Foraging, a floral arranging class, Home Freezing of Foods and Starting Seeds Indoors.

Pre-registration for the classes is required and some classes have limited capacities.  The last date to register for classes is March 16, 2015 on a first-come, first-serve basis.  However, all are welcome to stop in that day and shop at the bake sale and silent auction.
