GeoHike: Devil's Lake State Geologic Hiking App

Do you want to know about the rocks and hills that you are looking at in Devil’s Lake State Park?   Do you want to get around in the park using just your iPhone or iPad?  Who wouldn’t!

The Wisconsin Geological & Natural History Survey, in cooperation with University of Wisconsin Cooperative Extension, has developed a Devil's Lake State Park Geology app that is free for the iPhone and iPad.

GeoHike can be your tour guide to the geology of Devil’s Lake State Park.  The app will follow you through the park and will guide you to points of geologic interest.  Photos and text will explain what you see and will enrich your enjoyment of Wisconsin’s favorite park.

Provided by the Sauk County Land Information/GIS Department, LIDAR is a remote sensing technology that measures distance by illuminating a target with a laser and analyzing the reflected light.   LIDAR is popularly used as a technology used to make high-resolution maps, with applications in geomatics, archaeology, geography, geology, geomorphology, seismology, forestry, remote sensing, atmospheric physics, airborne laser swath mapping (ALSM), laser altimetry, and contour mapping.
