Purpose

To Approve to Amend the 2026 Budget for Additional Allocation of Grant Funds to Fund for New APCO IntelliComm Software Installation and Integration and Advanced Training for Next Generation 9-1-1

Background

BACKGROUND: The Sheriff’s Office was awarded $70,597 from the Wisconsin Department of Military Affairs/Office of Emergency Communications to provide for APCO IntelliComm software installation and integration and advanced training for the Next Generation 9-1-1. The purpose and scope of this software upgrade is to standardize emergency call taking across the board by using standardized protocols and lines of questioning to maintain consistency from the most senior dispatcher to the newest dispatcher.  This software will allow the Sauk County Communications Center to provide guided and certified pre-arrival medical instructions over the phone for medical calls and provide more instructions over the phone beyond basic life saving measures prior to an ambulance arriving on scene.  Telecommunicators will undergo training and certification to utilize the new protocols and will re-certify bi-annually.  The software will give the Communications Center access to hundreds of industry standard trainings and additional resources.  The software will be integrated with our current Central Square Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) to work seamlessly with one another. This grant requires Sauk County to cover 10% of the approved grant, which is equivalent to $7,059.70 and will be funded through the general fund balance and the state will cover the remaining 90%, which is equivalent to $63,537.30 and will be disbursed at close of the grant project.
